I nearly fell out of my chair when I looked over Chelsey & Randall’s amazing bohemian engagement session with Carlyn K Photography. You see, this breathtaking outdoorsy engagement shoot was shot on New Year’s Day, in rural Ohio, on a cold winter’s day. Seriously, they were literally encapsulated in the warmth of their love. And I think you will agree once you look over their engagement photos that their love for each other is radiant!
Also, Chelsey is an absolute sweetie to give us the lowdown on their love journey, and details of their future wedding this summer -all located at the end of the post.
From the lovely Bride-to-Be, Chelsey:
How did you meet?
Randall and I met at our local high school in 2008. I was an incoming freshman who was ready to start a new chapter and Ran was a graduating senior and was planning on going away to college. We met through mutual friends during lunch on our first day of school and I thought nothing of it as we were both on completely different stages in our lives. However, those thoughts changed as Randall entered my study hall and sat next to me later that day. I quickly learned about his quirky humor and outgoing personality and as the weeks went by of the same behavior, conversations turned to note-writing. I found myself waiting anxiously for the next folded up paper between classes and we would linger the hallways for each other after every bell to make the exchange.
Somehow Ran retrieved my number and started texting me and we were always in contact by making jokes or updating each other about our day. Our friendship made a sharp turn as a night out with friends at the movies turned into our first kiss and shortly after he asked me to be his girlfriend. We were inseparable! I supported him at every sporting event and he went to every high school dance with me (even all the years after he graduated!). Fast forward 7 years and I can now say that I am finally going to marry my high school sweetheart! I am so thrilled to have made this journey with him and to start the next chapter in our lives!
How did he propose?
Randall proposed to me on December 19, 2014 at the PPG Rink in downtown Pittsburgh. The original plan was a double date for Christmas festivities, dinner and ice-skating with our good friends who were leaving for California. However, our friends canceled because a grandparent was in the hospital, but Ran still assured me that we should go alone. I was hesitant and suggested we stay local and grab something to eat and stay in and watch movies by the fire but he wouldn’t take no for an answer! I figured he just really wanted to go and try something new and I finally agreed. When we arrived I realized the trip was totally worth it! Downtown Pitt was transformed into a little Christmas town filled with lights and entertainment. We had dinner at a cute little pub that overlooked the Christmas decor and finished just around the time the sun was setting. Randall suggested that we go ice-skating next and I agreed.
We hit the ice after renting our skates and it took me 20 minutes just to get halfway around the rink (which was totally packed that night!) and he lead me to middle right at the edge. I looked over and our friends (who said their grandfather was in the hospital!) came busting out towards us snapping photos and videotaping and my parents ran from out of the bushes. I looked over at Ran for an answer of what was happening and he was propped on one knee with the most beautiful shiny ring I’ve ever seen in his hand. “CHELSEY, WILL YOU MARRY ME?” Everyone stopped skating and started cheering and I was utterly shocked! SHOCKED! YES!!!! I can remember my face burning and my knees buckling as I was escorted off the ice. Our friends who were ‘at the hospital’ were actually PART OF THE PLAN to capture it all! It was such a special moment and I am so fortunate to have images and video of it all! It was one of the best nights of my life and he did such an amazing job! WE’RE GETTING MARRIED! EEEEK!
What are your wedding plans?
Randall and I are getting married this summer on August 7, 2015 in our hometown area of Youngstown, Ohio. Our ceremony will take place at St. James Meeting House in Boardman Park; a local historic picture-perfect all white church. The reception will take place at Fellows Riverside Garden overlooking the white roses! Our theme is shabby chic with an antique garden touch and a slight incorporation of my love for Cinderella. My colors are warm neutrals and blush with accented gold and lace, and my bridal party will be wearing a one-shoulder long, flowy, blush gown with a baby’s breathe flower crown. Our big day is going to be personalized to represent Randall and I in every aspect form our cookie table, showcasing cookies from both of our heritage backgrounds, and our favorite Handel’s ice-cream (a treasured homemade local ice-cream place ) being hand-scooped and served with our cake, which will be featured in a wire cake stand that is identical to Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage! We will also be honeymooning in Jamaica for 9 days at an all-inclusive couples resort! We are both so excited and although planning your dream wedding can be stressful, I am constantly reminding myself we are blessed to have all the love and support from our families and that at the end of this journey we will finally be MARRIED!
