Good day my lovelies! I hope your week is heading off to a great start. Today I have a just gorgeous wedding in lovely shades of pink and fantastic photography by Photo Love. Jessica & Phillip were inspired by the natural picturesque surroundings that Whitney Mountain Lodge provided. Being close to her parent’s lake house they thought they would make a “weekend of it” and carry the celebrations throughout Memorial Day weekend with family and friends. How fun!
From the lovely Bride, Jessica:
How did you meet?
Phillip and I met in college at Oklahoma Christian University. He was two years older than I was and we both played for the varsity soccer teams. He befriended one of my friends from high school that also went to OC to play on the men’s team. We all started hanging out and my friend said to me one day: “You know who would make a great couple? You and Phil!” It was as if it hadn’t hit me before! But the second he said it, a light went on. A few weeks later, we were dating and five years (and MANY adventures) later, we married!
What were your Wedding Planning, Inspiration and Style?
Our families are from all over the country. From Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Ohio, Louisiana and beyond. We wanted to make a weekend of it so that our families could stay a while, visit, and our wedding wouldn’t be a blur of catching up with loved ones we hadn’t seen in years. We chose to be married at the location of my parent’s lake house over Memorial Day weekend. The festivities started Thursday before our wedding with happy hours, lunches, boat rides, and dock time taking us through the weekend. Phillip and I were able to relax and enjoy the company of those who traveled far and wide to celebrate.
We got married at Whitney Mountain Lodge on Sunday, May 26th 2013. Our style was low-maintenance and natural beauty that the lodge offered. We are a laid back couple, so why should our wedding be any different?! The view is hard to beat, so the decorations were simple and unobtrusive. We kept the lake-goer mentality and ended the long weekend with a big party to celebrate those who came and the new family that was formed! I wouldn’t change a thing!
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
Waking up! You always wonder what it will be like to wake up on your wedding day! It was a peaceful morning. My parent’s lake house was filled with guests all week long, but on my wedding day everyone was chased out. My mom made me breakfast and I was able to drink coffee on the back porch, enjoy my favorite view of Sailboat Bay, and talk with my mom and her best friend. It was perfect! My MOH came over about an hour before we were going to the lodge to get ready and we had girl time in my room. She gave me my “something borrowed” that were her grandmother’s pearls. So special!
The other big thing I will remember the rest of my life is walking down the isle. The isle was such that I couldn’t see Phillip at the end until I was feet away from him. So, the whole walk, I was able to take a breath and look around at all the people who traveled so far for US. The people you love most in the world all in one place is an overwhelming feeling. I loved seeing everyone’s smiling faces. To end the walk at the smiling face of my handsome groom was the cherry on top!
Do You have any advice for other brides?
Just relax! It is the day that you have planned for forever! Things will NOT go as planned, but if you remember that at the end of the day you will be married, that helps calm all nerves. THAT is what the focus should be. Not how good your centerpieces look. Don’t plan your wedding around what will impress other people and make them happy. Plan it around what makes you and your fiancé happy.
