Hello my lovelies! Are you ready to start the day with some romance and pretty wedding color inspiration? This wedding is just the ticket! Erin & Chris’s beautiful late March wedding took place at the SouthWood House & Cottages in Tallahassee, Florida and was captured by Luna Bella Photography. They had an outdoor ceremony and tented reception under towering oak trees and sunny skies. I just adore their wedding colors- shades of purple and blue, such a pretty and romantic scheme – one of my favorite color combos.
From Luna Bella Photography:
Their perfect wedding day was a mix of southern charm and vintage ambiance. The plantation setting was the perfect backdrop for the ceremony, and canned honey was a favorite wedding favor! It was a stunning wedding and their love was captured beautifully. Every last detail is breathtaking!
From the Bride, Erin:
How did you meet?
Chris and I actually met through my brother, Matt, while dating other people.
Chris and Matt became friends after working together in IT together for the state of Florida in Tallahassee. Chris and I hung out a few times at my brother’s house and both recall great conversations with one another. I moved to Orlando to start grad school shortly afterward and Chris moved to Lakeland, FL to start a new job as a computer programmer at Publix Corporate a few years later. He Facebook messaged me to see if I wanted to hang out sometime since he often visited Orlando and didn’t know many people in Lakeland. Single for about a year and a half, I invited him out for my birthday celebration and the rest is history! I moved to Lakeland after graduation. Chris told me years later that my brother told him he thought we would be a good couple before we had even met. I guess family knows best!
Who designed your dress and bridesmaids dresses?
After looking at a few stores, I finally found my Rhapsody dress off the rack at Minerva’s Bridal Outlet in Orlando. I wanted a lace dress with a keyhole back, but bought a strapless dress with no lace! Funny how that happens! I wanted my bridesmaids to have different dresses in the same color, so they looked alike but had dresses to fit their unique body types, so I found ones we all liked at David’s Bridal.
What were your Wedding Planning Inspiration and Style?
Chris is from Tallahassee and I am from a small country town called Wakulla just outside of Tallahassee, so we knew we wanted somewhat of a Southern theme. However, I also feel like our styles have a lot of modern influences, so we wanted to incorporate that somehow and we consider ourselves to be “old souls” compared to others our age, so the vintage look was something else I thought would reflect us well. I honestly had no idea how “southern”, “modern”, and “vintage” were going to work together until I saw everything in front of me, but I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful wedding! We chose an old plantation house with lots of vintage accents inside as our venue and decorated it with LOTS of mason jars, old family photos, simple flower arrangements, but wore modern attire in addition to several unique accents and fresh ideas. Chris’s aunt, Paula, offered to be our wedding coordinator for the big day and she and my dad helped with many details, but we decided on 98% of everything ourselves.
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, and that contributed highly to the success of the ceremony and reception since we chose to do both outdoors. I loved hearing birds chirping around me and seeing the wind blowing the big oak trees and leaves around us during our ceremony. That made me feel at home and really made the ceremony more sentimental for me. The entire day was so special, really. I’ll never forget looking out on the front lawn where the ceremony took place while Chris and the groomsmen walked up to take their places in front of the pergola. That’s the moment when everything felt real and I became extremely anxious. I really enjoyed our reception as well! We learned a few moves for our first dance, but decided to do our own thing and be silly, which totally reflected our personalities. The dance with my father was really emotional for me and the toasts everyone made were absolutely wonderful! I also don’t think I could’ve asked for a better caterer, either. Backwoods Bistro’s food was unbelievable and all of guests raved about the servers.
Do You have any advice for other brides?
My advice to other brides is to do your own thing and trust your instincts. You will second guess yourself so many times and get so many opinions from different people that you will overwhelm yourself deciding on every last detail. I had a difficult time telling people what I wanted because I didn’t want to sound bossy, but you can’t worry yourself about that because at the end of the day, it is YOUR wedding, not theirs. Of course you should be considerate of other people offering to help you, but if you really want something or don’t care to spend money on something else, listen to yourself. I would also suggest asking someone, even if it’s a friend or family member, to coordinate the day of the event. Even if you do all of the planning and think you have it all figured out, you can’t oversee what is happening on the day of and be available to squash any unexpected hiccups that might occur. I thank God Chris’ aunt offered to help us.
Expect to pay 50-70% more than what your original budget was for your wedding. It adds up. Quick.
Let your wedding party know what their expectations are ahead of time. If you have several people who have never been in a wedding, you can’t expect them to know that you need someone to make sure everyone is on schedule the day of or that you need their help planning your shower or bachelorette party, but you probably will even if you don’t tell them. Wedding planning will make your stress level skyrocket unless you let people know what your expectations are (in a nice way, of course).
