Don’t just love spring weddings? I adore them, especially when it’s combined with captivating colors, flowering trees and an abundance of pretty tulips. This charming southern wedding, submitted by Cariad Photography, is all that and more.
From the Photographer:
Kelton and Zac’s Wedding was held in Charlotte, NC and it was as much fun as they promised us it would be when we shot their engagement session last fall. The couple both studied at Clemson University and they were true Tiger Fans, so of course orange was their colors which looked gorgeous with the turquoise of the bridesmaids dresses. Kelton’s gown was quite elegant and wearing her mothers veil made it even more so. Zac wore of course orange socks and other accessories that showed that he was a Clemson Tiger fan. All this and a beautiful spring day with Cherry Blossoms in the Church Yard made this wedding a true Southern Wedding.
How did you meet?
From the Bride, Kelton: Zac and I both went to Clemson University (Go Tigers!) and our senior year, many of our friends lived in the same house complex and threw a lot of fun get togethers during football season. He was in Alpha Tau Omega and my best friends dated many of his fraternity brothers. One night, we both ended up at the same get together at our mutual friend’s place. I’ll never forget him in the kitchen in his white PFG shirt talking to my friend! I thought he was gorgeous and I actually gave him my number. It took a few more times hanging out before it became official – but by Thanksgiving we were inseparable!
What was your Wedding Planning, Inspiration and Style?
Zac works full time and I was a senior medical student during the wedding planning so planning was pretty stressful. But I guess the planning style was simple, fun and “southern rustic classy” – I made that up, but basically we wanted simple but pretty with rustic elements and a lot of pearls and color! The main thing Zac and I agreed on about how we wanted our wedding was that all we wanted was all of the people we love there and having a good time – we wanted a pretty party!
It was interesting how we picked the colors. Of course, Zac, like most guys, had no idea there was such a thing as “wedding colors”. In Clemson there is a store called MH Frank where they sell amazing men’s clothes. He picked out a cummerbund and bow tie that he really really wanted to wear at the wedding – it was Orange and Purple checkered! Of course I wasn’t going to tell him no so I planned the wedding around it 🙂 I added the sea foam green in the bridesmaids dresses and some brown in the centerpieces, then coordinated the orange into the bouquets. I think it turned out beautiful! Then of course there had to be a few Clemson Tiger Paws thrown into the mix!
What was your Favorite memory of the day?
I think this is an impossible question. I don’t have one particular favorite part of the day, but instead I have many incredible snapshots in my head that I hope I never forget. How nervous and excited I felt all day before walking down the aisle. Having my sister, mother, and sister in law putting me into my dress. Seeing Zac smile then laugh as I walked into the church! When my mom touched my arm at the same time that my Dad gave me away. Zac making me laugh throughout the ceremony then finally getting to kiss my husband. When Zac’s mom hugged me tight and welcomed me to the family after their dance. When Zac and his friend Adam sang Freebird with the band. When I danced The Wobble with my mom (neither of us knew what in the world we were doing!) And then finally dancing the final dance of the night half with my dad, then Zac cut in and finished the dance.
Sorry but I can’t pick one particular memory!
Do you have any advice for other brides?
Relax. Think about other weddings you’ve been to, can you remember every detail of the decor? Probably not – but I bet you do remember how much fun you had and how happy the couple went! That is the most important part of your wedding day, the fact that you are about to marry your best friend, and you get to share the moment with everyone you love. A mislabeled place card, a wilted rose, a late bridesmaid, or any other mishap will never change that fact! So relax, enjoy being a Bride, do things for you not just for the planning. When I felt stressed over programs, I got a massage!
