Laken & Wayne were married on a beautiful August summer day at The Lodges at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Their rustic shades of pink wedding – that ranged from a bright coral to a powdery pink – is the epitome of sweetness. Katey, of Katy Sergent Photography & Design, has provided a little backdrop on their special day below.
Last Summer, I had the opportunity to photograph a gorgeous, rustic/country chic wedding in Gettysburg, PA at The Lodges at Gettysburg. It was what felt like the hottest day of the Summer (98 degrees, felt like 115), but that didn’t keep the bride and groom from having a beautiful wedding day! Laken planned her whole wedding with bright coral, lace, and gorgeous wildflowers. Since her and Wayne (her husband-to-be) are both hunters, she gave the men shotgun shell boutonnieres! They also wore tan vests, and handsome dark jeans with brown boots to really give the country chic feel.
What was special about Laken and Wayne’s wedding is that Wayne is actually my cousin. He and Laken had been dating for a while, so our family was ecstatic when he finally proposed! It’s always an honor to photograph such special moments for family.
From the Bride, Laken:
How did you meet?
Wayne and I met through a Facebook actually lol! We knew some mutual people.
Who proposed marriage and how did that proposal happen?
Wayne proposed to me September 25th at our home we had just bought together. We had planned a vacation to the beach prior where he planed to propose but later found out the couple we went with, her bf had already planned on proposing while we were there. So Wayne waited!
How did you decide on your venue?
I searched and searched for a venue! I wanted something with a lake and I wanted a rustic feel! I stumbled on The Lodges at Gettysburg by accident. I made an appointment right away to visit and fell in love instantly.
Where did you get the inspiration for your color palette and design?
I used different colors of pink because it is my favorite color and had a summer feel to it. I wanted a rustic style wedding and decorations. I made all my flower arrangements and bridesmaid bouquets with the help of my girls. I went and handpicked all my flowers from a local lady who did my bouquet and boutonniere’s. Even my mason jar candy bar was all handmade.
Three things you’re glad you did.
I’m most glad I had my mother and father walk me down the aisle. My mother has been a huge influence in my life and I’m glad she got to be apart of it! I’m also glad I did a lot of the decorations and flower arrangements myself. I liked feeling as if I got to personalize my wedding, and was proud of myself because I’m not very creative! Lastly, I’m glad I asked Katie to photograph my wedding. She did an amazing job of capturing my wedding. She recently just did my maternity pictures! She is very talented.
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
Some of my favorite memories of that day was getting ready with my family and friends, spending time together decorating, seeing my husbands face when I was walking down the aisle, seeing family and friends I haven’t seen in awhile, and playing the shoe game.
Do You have any advice for other brides?
My advice to other brides is to find a place you don’t have to do everything by yourself, and get a wedding coordinator. I had a wedding coordinator and she had my catering, and cake, and tables and chairs set up for me. She just took care of a lot of the little things that brides shouldn’t stress about.
