Shanae & Tony’s wedding day happiness is infectious. You will find yourself smiling and filled with joy when you get a peek at their romantic navy and gold summer wedding shared and photographed by Trinjensen Photography. Honestly I don’t think I have ever seen a couple so blissfully happy and have so much fun on their wedding day. And their DIY wedding is an absolute vision. With a slew of glowing candles, twinkling lights, fresh eucalyptus, and a touch of rustic – Shanae & Tony’s wedding is truly “the perfect day”.
From the Trinjensen Photography: Shanae and Tony’s wedding day was one I’ll always hold dear to my heart. When I first met with Shanae and Tony, they expressed how excited they were to simply celebrate the love they have for each other, and wanted their day to reflect that. I always encourage couples to spend some one on one time together, or to set time to have a “mini-date” on their wedding day, and these two valued that time and were fully on board. Joy is the best word to describe their relationship. No matter what they are doing together, whether it’s watching the Royals with friends, or critiquing the Bachelorette episodes through snapchat videos at home, they are laughing and are the true definition of being best friends with your spouse.
From the bride, Shanae:
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Our wedding day was perfect! We wanted our day to be very personal and intimate, even with 400 guests! Our color schemes were neutrals, golds, and dark navy blue. I also incorporated lots of candles, floral, and greenery. It was a pretty traditional wedding, with our personal touch!
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Our ceremony was held in my husband’s childhood church. This was very meaningful for him and his family. We decorated the aisle with lanterns and touch of navy. We had a large open building for our reception, which required lots of decorating! We went over the top with decor. I wanted it to look just like the pictures I pinned on Pinterest. We incorporated over 600 candles and hung lights over the ceiling. We used lanterns and and logs of wood from my in-laws farm. We used fresh eucalyptus to line the tables. It was also important to me to display as many of our engagement photos as possible! It was ALL DIY, which was a ton of work, but definitely worth it!
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
We used a variety of neutral colored flowers and lots of greenery. My bouquet was a perfect match to my ivory and champagne dress. The bridal bouquets were elegant and truly stood out with the dark navy bridesmaid dresses. We ordered a variety of flowers and greenery to add to the reception hall. We had a ton of great help to put together loose bouquets for the tables!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
We personalized as much of our day as we could! We planned everything from beginning to end. One thing that will never be forgotten by our guests was our second meal. We served hotdogs and chips during the dance, and people still talk about it!
Choosing a favorite part of the day is so hard! We loved every minute of the day! Triniti allowed us to have a mini-date during our photos, this was perfect!
Let’s talk fashion. How did you choose your wedding day look? How did the groom? Describe both looks in detail.
I wanted ever part of the day to be elegant and timeless, from the dress to the decor. It was important that each piece matched. Choosing dresses, shoes, and jewelry was easy. It all just felt right! My dress was has a champagne, lace overlay. The bottom layer was ivory. It was covered in pearl beading. My jewelry was rose gold, to match my wedding band. I wore a cathedral wedding veil and wore navy shoes as my something blue. My groom was dressed in a khaki suit with navy accents. The guys wore vests and jackets, but during the reception were able to show off their navy striped suspenders! It was a very classic and somewhat old fashioned look that matched perfectly with our neutrals and timeless look.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
We met by a dumpster at a Royals game! He was throwing trash away, I was walking by and it all fell into place right then and there. We continued to spend time together and get to know each other at his tailgate. Once inside the stadium, we were basically inseparable and honestly, I don’t even know if the Royals won or not! It was a perfect day! A week later, we started our long distance relationship driving back and forth between KC and Omaha. The first week I went to visit him in Omaha, I took him a bottle of wine and attached a note to it. Little did I know, he saved this bottle! On what seemed like a regular Friday night, he had dinner ready when I arrived. He asked if I wanted to open a bottle of wine and I instantly told him, I really just want a cold beer! Somehow he talked me into picking out a bottle to drink for later. I came across a familiar bottle and instantly recognized that handwriting wasn’t mine. He removed my note and attached his own, asking me to marry him! When I turned around, he was down on his knee. It was perfect. He even planned for his friend to be outside, ready to take pictures, after I said yes!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Our first dance was one of the most special moments of our day! One thing we like to do together is swing dance. Our first dance was our one moment we had the dance floor to ourselves with all our family and friends cheering us on. The song was perfect, the candle lightening was perfect, and the dress couldn’t have looked more beautiful spinning around on the dance floor!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Enjoy every single minute of it. Everyone told me that it would go by fast, but it truly goes by in a blink of an eye! Spend time with your spouse on your wedding day, especially at the reception! And pick a photographer that you connect with. The wedding photos are the greatest wedding gift you will receive.
