Hello all! I’m back today to share a bright and cheery late summer wedding. This red, yellow and blue upbeat wedding features high school sweethearts Samantha & David celebration at the historic American Hotel in Staunton, Virginia. W. Wooten Photography took all the lovely photos showcased today.
From the Photographer: Sam & David threw a traditional wedding with a lot of DIY touches with a local flare for downtown Staunton, close to where they both grew up and met. These two high school sweethearts wanted a down to earth fun wedding that showcased the Staunton area and Staunton traditions from the local train station and historic hotel to the down home food catered by Hanks BBQ. These two know how to plan a good party that’s for sure!
From the Bride Samantha:
How did you meet?
We met in high school and actually dated for about 6 months and always stayed friends. We never really stopped being friends when I went off to college. When I came back from school, we reconnected and the rest is history.
What were your Wedding Planning, Inspiration and Style?
Since we paid for the wedding ourselves, we wanted to be frugal, but traditional. I’m an event planner so I was able to come up with creative ways to work with our resources. We were very much DIY and our families helped with every aspect of the day itself. The style turned out to be traditional, but with a vintage flare. The guests drank out of mismatched glasses and mugs from estate auctions and the flowers were a mix of wildflowers and traditional. Wine bottles from local wineries we featured in the centerpieces as well as photos of us from the past, in mismatched frames. We didn’t really have a specific theme, just kind of a go with the flow.
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
We loved just being with everyone and having all of our friends and family together. We had a friend chauffeur us in a classic car, and we sill have great memories of just riding through downtown on our way to the reception and also afterwards on the way to the hotel where we were staying.
Do You have any advice for other brides?
Do not do things just because “you’re supposed to”. Make your day your own and have fun doing it. The planning process is a big part of the wedding, so enjoy it. Take some time to sit back and watch during the reception because it will go fast!
