Kaley & Jake’s wedding at The Ranch Club in Missoula, MT, is the epitome of sweetness and charm. One of the many things I love about this shabby chic winter wedding is all of personal touches and lovely details all handcrafted by Kaley and her mother. I also love the subtle placements of color-neutrals paired with shades of purple and pink. This sweet couple also forgoed a traditional wedding cake for blueberry pies made from the blueberries handpicked by the bride.
Marianne Wiest Photography couldn’t have captured this darling wedding more perfectly. Take a peek and don’t forget to read the brides comments below!
From the Bride, Kaley:
How did you meet?
Jake and I have known each other for 10 years. We met in Kalispell and were friends through mutual friends. I was in a relationship at the time so I was not interested in more than a friendship. Jake moved to Alaska and we went our separate ways. We didn’t have contact for 4 years. One day, my dear friend Sara and I were talking about people we used to know and Jake’s name came up. Sara knew that Jake and I had a connection when he lived in Kalispell and decided to contact Jake in Alaska. The next day, Sara called the last known bank he had worked at in Alaska and pretended he did a loan for her. Reluctantly, the bank gave her his number because he had moved to Fairbanks. She called him and told him he needed to get in touch with me. Jake called later that week and we began a long distance relationship for 2 years until I moved to Alaska.
How did he propose?
We got engaged in Nome. One of my favorite things to do in Nome is comb the beach for sea glass along the Bering Sea. It was in May and I was leaving for Montana the next day to spend the summer with family. Jake and I went to collect sea glass on the beach. As we were walking along collecting glass, Jake got down and said “I think I found a piece of glass you will really like” I looked down and he was on one knee with my wedding ring. Of course I couldn’t believe he was proposing right before I was leaving but I was so happy that we were going to get married. I said “yes.”
What were your Wedding Planning Inspiration and Style?
I wanted the wedding feel to be antique, shabby chic with lace, and burlap throughout. I used natural tones that go along with burlap-eggplant, blush, and neutral tones. I wanted to have personal touches throughout the wedding, and my mother was a huge help throughout the wedding process. She handmade all the table decorations and bouquets. On the centerpieces were love poems and lace that my great grandmother had given my mom. The bouquet had antique broaches from my great grandmother and great aunt. The gloves I wore were my great grandmothers gloves. The truck, 1953 Chevy 3100 5 window, Jake’s dad Gerry rebuilt from the ground up. This is the exact same model driven by 3 generations in Jake’s family.I also wanted to bring a little Alaska to Montana. I love picking blueberries during the summer and all the blueberries that were used in the desserts were picked by me.
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
Some of our favorite memories were seeing Jake’s face for the first time as we were taking pictures. I have waited for the last 4 years to get married and I was so excited to be husband and wife. Since we live in Alaska I have not met many of Jake’s friends and vice versa, and this was the first time my parents and Jake’s parents met. Also, it was great to finally meet friends and family that have been so influential in Jake’s life.
Do You have any advice for other brides?
My advice to other brides is to enjoy the moment. You cannot control every aspect in your wedding-mine was the weather. The week prior to our wedding, the weather was beautiful. The day of our wedding a storm was rolling in about the time we started taking pictures. Instead of being upset about the snow, we made the best of our situation and the pictures turned out beautiful.
