I’m back today to share another elegant fall wedding! Karon & Steve had a beautiful church wedding then celebrated their nuptials at Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. Their wedding colors were purple, peach & gold with accents of pink and green. I just love how they incorporated Echeveria succulents in the bouquets, boutonnieres, décor and wedding favors. The bride, Karon and her mother made three wedding cakes for the event, and yes there absolutely gorgeous! Karon also did many DIY projects for the wedding and had help from event designer Divine Décor to create an elegant reception atmosphere full of beautiful floral displays, lots of gold accents, and glowing candles.
Thanks go to Barbara Rahal Photography for sharing this fabulous wedding with us today!
From the Bride, Karon:
How did you meet?
People always ask us how we met and are surprised to hear that we met at a nightclub. Well, in the line up waiting to get into the club, actually. It was there that a friend asked Steve, who was in front of us, to take a photo of our group. He took the photo and then chatted with all of us for a little bit before he went inside. Once I got into the club Steve looked for me and we started talking. He was a nice, friendly guy and a great dancer so when he asked for my phone number (saying that he needed to get my number right away because his phone was dying) I didn’t hesitate. He called me the next day. A few days later we went on our first date and six years later we are happily married.
The Wedding Planning
We started planning the wedding shortly after we got engaged in June of 2012. Steve worked in catering when he was in university so, unlike a lot of grooms, he had a few ideas of what he wanted for our wedding and was very involved in the planning. Although Lily from Divine Décor did a fantastic job with the centerpieces and most of the decorating on the day of the wedding, I still put in a lot of time working on DIY projects.
Amongst the most time consuming of these projects were our invitations, programs and other paper products, which I designed and put together myself, a giant paper flower backdrop that I made for the headtable, and the cakes which I made with the help of my very talented mother. The days leading up to the wedding were busy and at times stressful but it was all worth it. Our wedding day was a fantastic celebration with our friends and family. Even the weather cooperated!
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
My favourite moment of the day was definitely when we read our vows. We both also loved walking into the reception and seeing all of friends and family gathered in the beautifully decorated room.
Our Photographer Barbara is a true professional and a natural at her craft. With her friendly demeanor and smile, she made everyone feel comfortable and beautiful in front of the camera. Our wedding party, some of whom are a little camera shy, actually had fun during the photo session! Barbara was everywhere, capturing images from all angles, and yet, at no point did it feel like she was in the way or intrusive.
Barbara is creative and has a great eye for stylish yet natural images. Her photographs are breathtakingly beautiful and romantic, never campy or embarrassing. We are so impressed with the quality and beauty of her work. Her images look like they are straight out of a magazine!
