Let me introduce you to Kristen & Nick’s enchanting garden wedding at Healdsburg Country Gardens. It’s an elegant affair set in California’s wine country on a quaint and exquisitely beautiful farm complete with rolling vineyards and beautiful garden settings, where a hint of sea glass & blush translates into the prettiest color story you’ll ever see. And the soft and airy neutral tones of the wood farm tables lined with garlands, weaved with silver dollar eucalyptus, olive branches and dahlias, is simplicity at its best. From the bride, Kristen: When and how did you meet?
We met at a rooftop party during Fleet Week in San Francisco. For anyone who’s never heard of Fleet Week, think Blue Angels, boats and roof top parties in the beautiful Bay Area during our October Indian summer. My roommate at the time was dating one of Nick’s friends, and brought me along with her to the party. We spent the entire time talking in a corner much to our friends’ amusement, and went on our first date the following week. We’ve been together ever since!
What is your proposal story?
Over 4th of July weekend in 2015, we rented a house on Manhattan Beach with a group of our friends. We had always said that we wanted our engagement to be a private moment, so a few hours before we were supposed to leave for the airport, Nick suggested we go for a walk. We went to the park next to our house and sat down on a bench, and he proposed! Back at home, we had champagne and called our parents to share the exciting news before we were picked up by our friends to go to the airport. We celebrated all weekend!
What was one thing about your venue that made you know it was the one?
We both knew immediately after our visit to Healdsburg Country Gardens that it was going to be our venue – it’s stunning on its own and the perfect size for a wedding of 100. Our #1 wedding priority was that it had to be tons of fun for our friends and family, some of whom were flying out from the East Coast. We wanted the day to feel like an intimate, beautiful yet casual garden dinner party, and HCG had the perfect layout! We were beyond thrilled with our choice and could not recommend the venue more.
Which 3 details of your wedding were your favorites?
My favorite by far was our farm tables – they were non-negotiable to create the look and feel of the dinner, so we had them brought in from a rental company even though the venue had round tables on site. Instead of floral bouquets, we used 10’ floral garlands of silver dollar eucalyptus and olive branch punctuated with dahlias running through the table. Nick’s mother is an interior decorator and kindly shipped up a bunch of her own votive’s and knick knacks like a set of vintage jacks to mix in with each garland– every table had its own theme!
I also absolutely adored our color scheme, which was sea glass punctuated by blush tones. The bridesmaids wore Jenny Yoo’s sea glass, with both maids of honor in a skirt/top combo. The mix of sea glass, neutral and blush tones worked perfectly with the details of the venue!
If you could offer one piece of advice for engaged couples planning their wedding, what would it be?
It sounds cliché, but truly the only advice we would give is to keep it simple. We chose a few things that we absolutely had to have (a full bar, string quartet & DJ, and farm tables), and then kept everything else to a minimum. It was difficult, but I stayed away from Pinterest other than designing the tables and a few signs, and it really made things easier. We also told ourselves to expect that some things would go wrong on the wedding day and to let it go – and in the end, nothing appeared to go wrong at all. We have our amazing planner to thank for that!
What is one moment from your wedding day that you can’t stop thinking about?
This is a tough one – there are so many! I think dinner in general was my favorite part of the day. To sit and look around at all of our family and friends in a setting that turned out to be even more beautiful than we had imagined was indescribable – and the speeches were very entertaining!
