Olivia & Caleb took their love for dragons and unicorns and made into a wedding theme that’s unique, whimsical and a tad unconventional. And I don’t know about you, but I thrive on unconventional. I just love it when couples bring elements of their personality into their wedding day, making their wedding day unique to them. And this sweet couple did just that, all the while not scrimping on elegance. Miniature dragons and unicorns were weaved through the table arrangements and used as cake toppers. Little unicorn charms were placed in the bridesmaids bouquets, and a stuffed unicorn and dragon were used in the bouquet and garter toss. And whimsical meets elegance with copper, rose gold and light blue for accent hues and pretty elegant details wrapped in lovely blooms by Plum Nelly. From the Bride, Olivia:
When and how did you meet?
Caleb and I met through a mutual friend and our first meeting was at a Kristian Nairn ( Hodor from Game of Thrones) concert at a club in Shreveport Louisiana. Our first picture is us standing with Kristian right after our first conversation.
What is your proposal story?
For the proposal Caleb took me to a local art gallery and had me walk through the outside gardens, which were in full bloom because it was the day before Easter, and at the end of the trail my family and friends were all standing there to surprise me. I was so shocked, all I could do was stare at everyone he put so much thought and effort into the surprise it was perfect, he even arranged for my parents to be there from Florida.
How did you decide on your venue?
We chose to have our wedding at Taylor Town because it is Caleb’s family’s property. It meant a lot for us to get married there and to have that family history be apart of our big day. Also, we were able to have the plantation house next to Taylor Town be apart of the venue, so that added a special element as well.
Where did you get the inspiration for your color palette and design?
My color and design inspiration came from my engagement ring. My ring is rose gold with a blush pink Morganite stone and that is where those copper rose gold elements came in. I have always gravitated towards blueish greens and when I found the color spa it went so well with the rose gold.
Because Caleb and I love unconventional things we wanted to use our love of dragons and unicorns as a decorative theme for the wedding. So I decided to use those in the table arrangements and in little details such as the photo booth and cake toppers also, instead of throwing a bouquet I threw a stuffed unicorn and he threw a dragon.
Three things you’re glad you did.
I am very glad I went for the concept and theme I wanted even though it was nontraditional. Also, I am so thrilled I went with a wedding decorator to help bring all of my plans and visions to life the day of – Amanda Jamison was heaven sent! Lastly, I am glad we had the caterer set up a private table for us to sit at right after the ceremony so we were able to take a few uninterrupted minutes with each other and enjoy us being married before we went into the reception, plus we could eat before things got crazy.
What is one moment from your wedding day that you can’t stop thinking about?
The moment when it was time for me to walk down the aisle and the Jurassic Park theme song started ( yes that was what I walked down the aisle to 🙂 and everything I had planned and envisioned for the look and style of my wedding came to life. It was such an epic moment seeing all of our friends and family there to celebrate with us.
If you could offer one piece of advice for engaged couples planning their wedding, what would it be?
I would say remember that this is your day and no one else’s, go for exactly what you want and make it a party you and your guests will not forget!
