This blush pink & greenery, enchanted forest fairytale wedding, is absolutely sweet from beginning to end. When HRM Photography met up with Dominique & Chris and their event planner Blissful Weddings and discussed their plans for an “Enchanted Forest” fairytale wedding, they were happily on board. And when you see some of their captures of Dominique & Chris’s beautiful summer wedding below, I think you will understand why. Their wedding day was just dreamy and romantic – emphasis on the dreamy. And really I just can’t get enough of blush wedding gowns, pretty florals (especially floral crowns), fresh greenery, and pretty details. Can you?
From the Bride, Dominique:
How did you meet?
Chris and I met on my first day of university September, 2010 (Laurentian University in Sudbury ON, Canada). I was a freshman, and he was a third year floor Peer-Mentor helping students move into their dorm rooms. He helped carry all of my belongings to my room and helped me get settled in. Chris and I connected immediately, bonding over the fact that we were in the same program, drove the exact same car, and were one floor away from each other. Our attraction grew over frosh week, and in the following months we developed a very strong friendship. By December he asked me to be his girlfriend.
Who proposed marriage and how did that proposal happen?
After four years of dating and living together while in school, Christopher proposed July 4th, 2014. We were spending the weekend at Niagara Falls, which is a place we regularly like to visit. We went to dinner, and after dinner we went down to the falls to watch the July 4th fireworks. As the fireworks were going off, a photographer popped out and all off a sudden Christopher got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! It was so romantic, and I completely forget what he even said to me! He had put so much thought into that weekend, he had already asked for both of my parents blessing, and had hired a photographer, and booked a gorgeous suite without me knowing… which is shocking because he is horrible at keeping secrets.
How did you decide on your venue?
We had a “feel” that we were looking for when hunting for a venue, something intimate, romantic, and beautiful. We
also really wanted to find a place that had rooms for our guests to stay as many of them would be coming from out of
town. We knew The Elm Hurst Inn and Spa was the place because as soon as I walked into the reception room (the Carriage House) I began to tear up, because I could picture us dancing under the beautiful wooden beams and sparkling chandelier. The ceremony location was on the same property and gave me exactly what I wanted, an “enchanted forest, romantic” feel. It had huge trees, open green space, a small river, and a fountain in the background. Not to mention, the people we dealt with were absolutely professional, and made us feel extremely comfortable with every aspect of such a big decision.
Where did you get the inspiration for your color palette and design?
My inspiration came from personal taste, as well as Pinterest! I knew what ‘feeling’ I wanted, and from there I chose the colours and designs that matched. With it being a summer outdoor ceremony, I knew I wanted more neutral colours and wedding aspects. Blush pink, creams, and a lot of greenery (vines and ferns) made the “feel” all come together. This look really came to life because of our decorator and florist Russell- he made everything feel so organic and natural, while bringing out the romance and enchantment of a fairytale wedding.
Three things you’re glad you did.
* Hired a well-known and talented photographer.
* Enlisted a team of wedding planners (because I didn’t want to be the one stuck with organizing everything, or
having my mom do it all).
* Kept our guest list on the smaller end… kept things intimate and easy.
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
I have way too many amazing memories! But some of my favorite include walking down the aisle with both of my
parents, seeing my Groom get teary eyed, and being able to share the day with our closest friends and family (some of which had flown from the UK and South Africa to see us).
Do You have any advice for other brides?
My advice would be to prioritize your spending…ask yourself what matters the most. If you are somewhat of a control freak like me, hire someone to help you! And take some time alone with your husband, let it all sink in, or the day will rush by.
