From the bride, Ashlee:
How did you meet?
We met off tinder, the dating app. We both swiped right and were attached after our first date.
Who proposed marriage and how did that proposal happen?
Matt proposed to me on the docks by the river in downtown Bluffton where we had our first date and then we went to eat and celebrate at the restaurant, vineyard 55, that we ate at on our first date. He made sure to bring my daughter, Payton with us and she knew everything the whole time. Then he asked Payton if he could be her stepdad and gave her a Pandora bracelet. That was the best part of the whole proposal.
Describe your bridal attire:
I wanted a classy elegant look. I wore a Maggie Sottero dress with a medium length veil with my hair down, curled and to the side with a beautiful diamond pendant. I wore my moms tennis bracelet for Something Borrowed, a diamond necklace my mom gave to me for something new and my aunts heirloom earrings for Something old and my mom gave me the sapphires from the ring my dad gave her when they were married and we made a beautiful ring out of it for something blue.
What inspired the wedding day outfits?
Pinterest, I found all my outfits and ideas from Pinterest.
Did you do a First Look before the ceremony?
Yes we did do a first look. I think it saves time and you aren’t rushed trying to get the perfect pictures during cocktail hour. I am a sales catering manager and I run about 30 weddings a year and I knew what i did and didn’t want to do for my wedding based on all of those weddings. I didn’t want to fell rushed and I wanted to be able to enjoy the cocktail hour and reception. I feel like Matt and I still felt like we were seeing each other for the first time when I walked towards him down the aisle. It’s more of the emotion of we are about to be married to each other more then this is what I look like.
How did you decide on your venue?
At first I wanted to go elope with close family in the Caribbean somewhere but after Matt told me it was very important to have a large wedding to have both of our family and friends there I agreed but still wanted it relaxed and didn’t want to spend a fortune. My mom lives in Reynolds and I knew I wanted to have some body of water in or background. The pavilion at Reynolds landings was perfect. Also a big selling factor was we got to bring our caterer which saves so much money. It was perfect!
Where did you get the inspiration for your color palette and design?
Again I fell in love with my blush, champagne, gold color palette from weddings at my resort. A wedding planner had this fantastic reception with these colors and I got a lot of inspiration from her design.
Describe your decor:
I left this part up to my amazing talented aunt. She decorates the Hotel California and designs weddings in Cabo San Lucas. I told her my colors and showed her my most desired linens and trusted her with the rest. I would not have changed one thing! I went down with my bridesmaids before everyone arrived to be able to take in all the decor and hard work she put into my special day. That is something I recommend to every bride I work with is to take 5 minutes to go into your reception to look at all your hard work before it all starts because once the wedding starts it goes fast.
My aunt did everything DIY, every centerpiece and pieces of decor and I think that’s what made it so unique.
Three things you’re glad you did:
I’m glad I saved costs and did a food truck. Everyone loved it and the food was excellent.
I’m glad I got to have a dance with my dad, step dad and grandad, the three most important people in my life. I wasn’t going to do dances but so happy I did.
I’m glad we flew our friends, Sally and Steve from Europe to sing at our ceremony and cocktail. They were amazing and it really set the tone.
What are some of your favorite memories of the day?
Walking down the aisle to my best friend, incorporating my daughter into the ceremony, dancing with my grandad, my mom helping my put on my dress and dancing on the dance floor with my new husband and all my family and friends
Do You have any advice for other brides?
A wedding is meant to marry your best friend and celebrate that with your friends and family, don’t get hung up on the little things. Something will always go wrong or not the way you thought but who cares just enjoy your time because it really does fly by!
